COME OUT OF THE PIT
"Then He said to them, 'What man is there among you who has one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out? Of how much value then is a man than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.'" - Matt 12:11-12
There is no better time to come out of that situation than now, there is no better season to seek your deliverance than now, though people may say that one day it will be well, but your healing can be today. It may be ceremonial or not; the Lord says it is good to do good today! Please, note that what led Jesus to give that illustration was because He healed a man, the situation of being in a pit could be sickness, it could be a bondage or an addiction; and when men least expected Him to help that man out of the pit He did.
Don't wait till they say it is 'healing Sunday' don't wait till they say it is 'breakthrough day'; the great Shepherd of the sheep does good always and of course He says it is lawful; in the morning He delights to help you out of your misery, in the afternoon He wants to restore hope to you, at night - the Lord wants to bring about a deliverance. Do not mind what the hypocrites say; the Lord is not occasional in His goodness, He does good all the time.
In case you find yourself in a not so good situation, in case the enemies have conspired and dipped you inside the pit, they may have left you for dead and it seems there is no hope. Jesus say that it is lawful to help you out. That man was not expecting to be healed on the Sabbath, but the Lord of the Sabbath who always is the Lord of the day - says receive your deliverance from the pit.
Maybe it's a lifestyle of sin that has kept you in the pit, maybe it is a conspiracy of the enemy; be it day or night, wherever you are reading this now, in traffic or in the church, worshipping or wondering - the Lord desires that you are out of that pit. You are of much value than an animal, you are the person of His pasture - you can't fulfill destiny in that pit - have faith and see Him bringing you out - right now!
I pray these words births uncommon faith in you, I pray these words will give you courage to stretch your hands out in that situation and of course He will bring you out.
THAT PIT IS TEMPORARY
"Then they took him and cast him into a pit, and the pit was empty; there was no water in it." - Gen 37:24
The boy was stripped of his garments that dignified his life, and they decided to put him in a abandoned reservoir; the water had dried up and it could only serve as a place of torture, far from the sight of men, the enemies at that time sat down to eat, young Joseph was left there while they thought of what would be of his dream.
Dear friend, your dream may have landed you enemies, who have put you into a pit, they strive to make sure your dream doesn't come to bear, they can't stand the assurance that you bask in and the confidence in what you see. They are angry that you dared to dream, they are filled with rage that they are servants to help you. So everytime they see you, they put you in discouragement, they slander you and say all sort of thing - that is just a temporary situation.
If for righteousness sake you have been thrown into a den or a pit, be rest assured that it is a temporary situation, it is not your fault that the Lord has planted such profound ideas in you, it is the nature of the flesh for men also to be threatened by that your idea; though all they offer is discouragement, be sure that it won't be too long. Joseph's brothers were the same people who brought him out of the pit to sell him into a destiny of greatness - be glad you are coming out!
"So they took Jeremiah and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the king's son, which was in the court of the prison, and they let Jeremiah down with ropes. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire. So Jeremiah sank in the mire." - Jer 38:6
A man who is on a divine mission can find himself in the lowest point of depression, that man can face rejection and persecution, that man can be found to face the fiercest of trials all because he is on God's errand, such a man can always hope for a deliverance, such a man can be confident in the Lord who will save; God has never forsaken his own, if this is your situation right now - be rest assured that you are coming out.
Jeremiah would have suffered hunger and thirst, he was treated in the harshest way, there was a normal prison to put the man, but no, they felt a dungeon would make him suffer, the man who did nothing; but as it was with Joseph, somebody was stirred to speak for him and he was rescued out of the dungeon.
Never did Joseph renounce his dream, never did Jeremiah shrink in fear and decide not to prophesy has the Lord has given him. The assurance of deliverance should cause a child of God speak out the more. It's not your fault that His word came, it's not your fault that such big dreams emanate from you - God who gives will also deliver from trouble.
AVOID THAT PIT!
"And He spoke a parable to them: 'Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into the ditch?'" - Luke 6:39
How many have decided to follow leaders who have no depth and understanding, how many who are shallow, have made themselves teachers only to lead people into the ditch, we ought to come to the understanding that those who we decide to follow can be the ones who don't even see well, they end up falling into a ditch and of course they want to take along as much as possible.
What is the testimony of that person you decided to follow? What is the depth of his or her understanding of the Word? Is the person led by his or her spirit or the Holy Spirit, is he or she tossed by the wind; I think in my heart that a blind person would know his fellow blind - don't be misled by the charade of excitement - wisdom is justified by its children; not in the response of the moment.
Haven't you heard, that where there is no 'vision' the people perish; if that person lacks vision - it is a ditch that is surely ahead; you need your leader to cast a vision so that your sight can be clear. The blind leading the blind is prevalent in our society. Vision is not just about grammar; it should speak of a depth, it should affect a life - and most times it doesn't satisfy only our desires... Please, use your other senses, to check if the person leading you is blind or not. This person could be your relationship partner, he could be your pastor or whoever - please check.
"Whoever digs a pit will fall into it, and he who rolls a stone will have it roll back on him." - Prov 26:27
This should serve as a warning also to those who are in the business of setting traps. Ever heard of how landlords who have uncovered pits or well have children fall into it and die? Sometimes, you may dig a pit for someone but the consequence is a deeper pit for you. There are times too when you dig a pit for a leader, or you may even be used as a trap for someone - don't you understand that you yourself are involved? A man who digs a grave must understand that he himself is the first occupier of that same pit - stop being a tool for someone's destruction.
Do not be so full of bitterness that you have started thinking of someone's downfall, do not not be so insecure that you become threatened by another's vision - to be bitter is to dig a pit, if that person falls, he has a big chance of getting out, but you on the other hand will become comfortable in the pit of guilt and lifestyle of wickedness - who will bring you out; you dug the pit by yourself.
Don't be careless with your comments, check your motives, why have you become a 'digger'? And permit me to bring the story of Haman the Agagite to fore at this moment; he was busy planning to have the Jews destroyed, he made gallows to hang Mordecai, all along he didn't know that it was his own burial plans he was making. The children of the kingdom should know that we have a higher route in disputes, we are peacemakers, we forgive - that's the nature. Let God be the avenger.
LET HIM BRING YOU OUT!
"He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon the rock and established my steps." - Psalm 40:2
How awesome is this our God, how gracious He is when He delivers His own, the Lord sees our despair; there is no one who has never been delivered from a pit - either a pit of sin, or an addiction, the Lord is the One high up, who can stretch His hands to take us out of that horrible pit, He pardons, He shows mercy and would not allow us to sink if only we would take His hands.
Don't try to save yourself, the more you try inside the pit of mire the lower you go, that's the nature of self righteousness without grace, that's the nature of morality without grace, that's the nature of integrity without kingdom principles - the world is a sinking ground - to operate on that platform with the world is to sink, come and let Him establish your feet on the rock. He takes you up and makes sure that where He places your feet, you are not sinking - and when He places you on the water - you will walk!
Are you disappointed in your efforts? Are you seeing yourself as a failure, it doesn't matter who put you in the pit, you may have dug the pit for yourself with your own hands, yet the Lord will bring you out if you let Him this moment, don't pretend as if you are comfortable. He is willing to bring you out today - that's the good He does whether on the Sabbath, the healing service or just right now - the Lord's good nature is not dependent on seasons - He is good all the time - and may He be good to you now in Jesus name.
"Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink; let me be delivered from those who hate me, and out of the deep waters. Let not the flood water overflow me, nor let the deep swallow me up; and let not the pit shut its mouth on me." - Psalm 69:14-15
If a man would admit his state and say a heartfelt prayer like David in the psalm above, I doubt if that man would not see God as the great deliverer, O if only you would admit that weakness and see the ruin it possesses for you - you would bend your knee and pray that you do not sink in the sin. It is not about pretence or keeping up appearances - the pit the devil keeps his people is horrible, say a prayer today.
A person can be forgotten in the dungeon, and his or her voice may not be heard, though people would have helped but they can't even hear, but there is a God who hears and is not limited to distance to have clear audibility; that God would hear you in your state and He will come to your aid. He longs to hear you, He wants to save you - be it sin or weights that keep pulling you down - there is aid for that person who will request.
God is not glorified in your despair, don't be deceived even if it is a test of faith - it is in your overcoming that He is glorified and we overcome through faith in the One who is able to save us and give us complete redemption.
Understand that only the devil will be locked in a pit for a thousand years - the bottomless pit for that matter (Rev 20:3), even Satan will be given a break before destruction of a thousand years; you are not Satan - you have outlived yourself in that condition - come out!
CONCLUSION:
These words serve as deliverance for somebody, this word is meant to make you discontented in that position, cry to your Deliverer and let Him come and save you. It doesn't matter how you got there, the Lord who is good at all times will bring you out.
