COSTLY ERRORS
"Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults." - Psalm 19:12
Until we face consequences, our errors may never be known. Out of a pure motive and good intentions you may have done that which you did...yet you may have made a costly mistake.
Some people are adamant about their actions that, even when it is pointed out to them, they don't understand. It is not everything in the world that we will learn on trial, some trials are acid test that will come with consequences if we make an error.
You only wanted company and God sees your heart, so you ended up being alone with that untrusted brother and behold - you were raped! The error was not needed.
Today, we'll examine from the scriptures men, who have fallen into errors due to some avoidable things. Don't be caught up in the web of errors. It could be costly.
ERRORS OF FAMILIARITY
"Then Moses lifted his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came out abundantly, and the congregation and their animals drank." - Num 20:11
The man must have been exalted in the eyes of the children of Israel that day...God asked him to speak to the rock, he never understood that it was an error to strike.
He must have felt like, "I don't think it will make any difference, after all I struck the rock at Horeb and water came out, now I know God won't mind if I strike it twice."
Too much familiarity has breeded contempt. Moses no longer knew he was just human after all.
That singular error cost Moses the promised land. It can be tempting when we want to be applauded by our congregation and we tend to change our messages to suit the ears of our audience...the Lord has asked you to talk on morals you have decided to 'balance' it with liberality...brother, this is an error.
The promise land for us is heaven, we can say Moses found rest in God in heaven, but if you miss this promise land of heaven... Is there still hope?
"Then Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it, put incense on it, and offered profane fire before the LORD, which He had not commanded them. So fire went out from the LORD and devoured them, and they died before the LORD." - Lev 10:1-2
Who commanded that segment we have introduced into the worship program, who authorised us to become profane? If we do not regard the commandments of God because we attained closeness with Him, we will be risking our salvation.
Too many errors we gloss over under the cover of 'grace'. My beloved, grace helps us find pardon, yet this same grace will draw us to perfection if we let it.
This error of familiarity is often found around pastors and presidents of group, because we feel we 'know' God we begin to permit everything. Though, the Lord may not strike you, but sincerely do you think God is pleased with you?
ERRORS OF IGNORANCE
"And when they came to Nachon's threshing floor, Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled. Then the anger of the LORD was aroused against Uzzah, and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by the ark of God." - 2Sam 6:6-7
'Ahn ahn, he was only trying to help na abi' - this is what we all would have said. But when we read the account of Chronicles on how that error was corrected, we will understand that putting the ark on oxen was disaster waiting to happen.
What happened to the poles and rings that was meant for the carriage of the ark? My friend if you don't get ignorance out of the way; you will fall into errors. Someone paid for the errors of many that day.
I see many of us who have assumed our way through life, we are busy doing things because it works, yet there is no precaution or caution. No knowledge whatsoever about it, you're doing trial and error. It may soon become trial and error and destruction.
Please let the Holy Spirit teach you the Scriptures, take time to ask the Lord in prayers, it may be costly to depend on coincidence or discretion. Who even told you it can't be done better if you give yourself to knowledge.
"Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent" - Acts 17:30
You don't have to suffer irreversible damage before you know your ignorance is not an excuse; even in the law.
Hello, this piece is meant to draw you to repentance, before you start arguing about doctrines and Scriptures, are you sure you know what you're talking about.
You may think it is not an error because you're mentioning the name of Jesus and possibly you have mistaken charisma for anointing. Hello, please repent.
Start to ask God for clarity, be sure of the intended inspiration. It could be a strange fire my brother. No one will be excused on the altar of ignorance.
Abimelech told God that, he took Sarah from the integrity of his heart, he didn't realise that his integrity is limited and he is man, also prone to error.
He didn't make findings, he just saw a beautiful lady and wants to marry sharp sharp. Who told you she doesn't have a partner yet. Be careful.
ERRORS OF SELF
"Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah." - Jude 11
The error of self is evident in him who is marked for destruction. This kind of error is bound and abounds in the heart of men with a rebellious heart toward God.
Anywhere they say, 'let us pray', or 'what did the Bible say?'; these set of people with errors of self will shout such a voice down with 'must we pray? Let's leave the Bible aside!' I understand that men can be unnecessarily religious yet...we must thread with caution.
The man who always want to be 'realistic' like Balaam, who was asking 'what will my children eat?' And all sort of 'realistic' questions will eventually be doomed.
Please, I beg you, consider that, an arrogant man is prone to errors.
"And Samuel said to Saul, 'you have done foolishly. You have not kept the commandment of the LORD your God, which He commanded you. For now the LORD would have established your kingdom over Israel forever.'" - 1 Sam 13:13
Oh, that guy with so much potentials will not just be humble enough, o sister, you are deceived by your position and think you cant learn anymore.
Little errors excused by man attract great consequence. Even when Joab told David not to carry out the census. He felt it was not logical, yet that error cost the lives of many.
ERRORS OF TRADITIONS
"And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men." - Matt 15:9
It's a pity that some churches inhibit the flow of the Spirit with their traditions, I am surprised some people still think speaking in tongues is unscriptural. I am taken aback to realise that church groups have turned to societies. Who taught us that women shouldn't be teachers.
You obey your family traditions as if it has scriptural backing, must it be only on Sundays that we play gospel music. You have come to believe pastors should be poor and not even cheerful. All these jargons are errors from men we must guard against.
"...thus you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition." - Matt 15:6
The marriage list they gave to you, you have accepted it all, saying it is tradition and should be respected. You didn't know that if you were to check it out with Jesus, He may not be happy.
Traditions in our days are the snare of errors which leads to captivity of the soul. We must challenge all traditions that doesn't find its root in scripture and seem to hinder to flow of the Spirit and the work of Christ.
SAVE US LORD!
"O LORD, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; you understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways." - Psalm 1391-3
I can not even boast of my self that I'm free of the above errors, I cannot stand as the writer and claim innocence of it. But I plead with a heart of humility for God to search me out and sort them out with me.
The consequences of errors are too dire as some do not come with a second chance. If I boast of my innocence in some of them, it is an error!
Dear reader, we can't be too sure of ourselves even after reading this, but we can be sure of Him who is able to keep us from stumbling (Jude24)
