THERE IS A SPIRIT IN MAN
"But there is a spirit in man, and the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding." - Job 32:8
Just because man is a spirit who has a mind/soul and dwells in a body does not mean every man has the same spirit. The spirit in man defines a man in all dimension and his disposition.
The spirit in man is the core factor that makes his person, if the spirit that resides inside a woman is the kind that existed in Jezebel of old, such a woman would be a seductress, who trap people into fornication (Rev 2:20)
The fruits that we exhibit with our life can be a pointer to the spirit that dwells inside of us, sometimes, we are determinants to the kind of spirit that resides inside of us, we become landlords to spirit as we permit them in our lives.
Addiction is a function of a spirit at work, no matter the form of addiction, be it sexual, smoking, alcoholism and the likes, it is a spirit in man that keeps them bound.
For the purpose of this study, I will by grace just classify the different kind of spirit into two, and pray that the Lord will open your understanding to receive this word with meekness.
EXCELLENT SPIRIT
"Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king gave thought to setting him over the whole realm." - Dan 6:3
Many would have thought Daniel to be a geek who has a whole house full of books and devoid of a social life, but the excellent spirit being talked about surpasses that which books can give.
Daniel was first a spiritual man who loved God with all his heart and was ready to stand by his belief, though they were intelligent men in the kingdom them, but Daniel's spirit was an excellent one.
A person who yields and bends to the mighty hand of God will permit the spirit to increase in expression. The excellent spirit that comes from God will make even professors wonder as they did the disciples.
An excellent spirit makes a man prosper and a slothful spirit makes a man a pauper and devoid of wisdom. We are a function of the spirit inside of us.
"And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship." - Exo 31:3
Every true regenerated child of God should have an excellent spirit working in him. The Holy Spirit in the life of a man, when given the chance, will make an excellent man.
The Holy Spirit inside of you is not for tongues only. The Holy Spirit inside of you is for exploits and it is what the Spirit of God is, that also enables us to become - excellent people.
The wisdom of Solomon made the queen of Sheba lose the funny spirit within her. She had a critical spirit that defined her, she wanted to ascertain if the wisdom of Solomon were true, but when the excellent spirit in Solomon came to play, she lost her inferior spirit (this is in context anyway).
EVIL SPIRIT
"Then a spirit came forward and stood before the LORD, and said, 'I will persuade him.' Then the LORD said to him, 'In what way?' So he said, 'I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of his prophets.' And the LORD said, 'You shall persuade him, and also prevail. Go out and do so.'" - 1Kings 22:21-22
Don't let anyone deceive you that there are no evil spirits, don't be under any illusion to think evil spirits will not be in the church, as a matter of fact, they were the first to recognise the true person of Jesus even before the Father revealed to Peter.
Lying spirits, seductive spirits, the antichrist spirit and a whole lot more are all at work and indeed their works are evidenced in the world today, if you need a prophet to convince you more of this, then I query the spirit in you.
No man can become bad or hardened in himself except a spirit possesses him, the lying spirit took permission to enter into the prophets, this also shows that if we don't take heed we can give room for the enemy.
"Then he says, 'I will return to my house from which I came,' and when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and pit in order. Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself..." - Matt 12:44-45
The emptiness of a believer permits the entering of evil spirit. The emptiness of the inner spiritual life of God permits the spirit of lust and all sorts into a man. You cannot afford to be empty.
Just has nature abhors vacuum, so it applies in the spirit realm.
Hello dear friend, when the spirit of truth is no longer at work in you, you will start living a life filled with lies. Lies to give false impression. Lies to convince your audience, the works of the flesh becomes evidenced in you...all these are pointers to an unclean spirit creeping into your life.
One other thing about unclean spirits is that, it cannot stand the truth from an excellent person possessed by an excellent spirit. The evil spirit in King Saul detested the excellent spirit in David.
YOU DECIDE WHAT SPIRIT POSSESS YOU
"And so it was, when they had crossed over, that Elijah said to Elisha, 'Ask! What may I do for you, before I am taken away from you?' Elisha said, 'Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.'" - 2Kings 2:9
There was a spirit in Elijah that Elisha recognised, there was a spirit at work in Elijah that Elisha coveted, the spirit that operates inside of us cannot do so without our knowledge, the spirit inside of us cannot force itself through without us longing for it, be it an excellent spirit or an evil spirit.
The things you give into, like sensual music, pictures and all that, shows your disposition to the spirit behind the artist, I do not even care so much about a theological prove of this statement. We desire and attract the spirit that works in us.
The evil spirit Jesus casted out sought permission to enter into the pigs. Please be aware that spirits may be seeking permission to enter into you, your lifestyle is a pointer to your permission.
"It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life." - John 6:63
A person who is open to the Word attracts the Spirit of excellence, a person who is open to the Word fills himself with the Spirit. Your present way of life will tell the kind of spirit you permit.
If secular music and mills and boom are your favourite, you need deliverance, if you unnecessarily and unrealistically give in to romance, you may struggle with a spirit (some people say spirit husband).
LET US PRAY
"But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you." - Rom 8:11
Lord, the excellent Spirit that worked in You can work in us, this is the Holy Spirit that we desire, the sweet Spirit that cannot lie or be unholy... If this Spirit works in us, both our inward and outward will be holy.
It is this Spirit of truth that leads us into all truth that we desire, it is this Holy Spirit that we must permit, Lord, as this spirit sat on every of the disciples that day of Pentecost, may this Spirit sit on our lives. May this excellent Spirit that supercede the thought of men come upon us.
The Spirit word in John 7:37, tells us that it is a thirsty soul You will occupy, it is a heart that longs for a knowledge of You that you enter...Lord humbly we give our lives as a permanent residence to Your Spirit.
Overtake, Overrule, Overshadow, Overcome every of our will and be Over our lives indeed, let Your Spirit be that Spirit in us in Jesus name (Amen).
