DEALING WITH THE ADVERSARY
"Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are on the way with him, lest your adversary deliver you to the judge, the judge hand you over to the officer, and you be thrown into prison." - Matt 5:25
How I wish the Lord open your eyes to see that the above scripture is beyond the issue of bribe as it is often argued. How I wish you will allow the Holy Spirit impress on your heart this day, the things you need to know!
An agreement is not necessary a concession of compromise as we often assume, no, an agreement with the adversary could just be you stating out clearly for the adversary to consent to your bidding.
In Joshua 9, Joshua had an agreement with the Gibeonites to make them slaves, wood cutters and water carriers. That was an agreement with the 'would have been' adversary.
An adversary or anything that represent such is bound to bring adversity - that is, such is meant to be a thorn in the flesh.
If we don't deal or agree with this adversary now, they will make you commit sin, you will be handed over to that ugly officer - Satan and you can be sure it is hell that is his prison. It is beyond bribery.
It is a matter of the soul and our salvation.
I agree today to put my adversary under my feet, he definitely has no choice as long as I walk in truth and authority of the Word. The word and faith are the instrument of agreement.
Remember, if you fail in the days of adversity, your strength is small (Prov 24:10).
You have to be strong or else your adversary make you commit and send you to hell.
WHAT DID YOU DO TO THE ADVERSARY?
"If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you." - John 15:19
The devil is the sole proprietor of adversity and from him adversaries come...we must be discerning enough to identify this and strong enough in faith to overcome him.
You as the believer do not need to offend the devil before he is angry with you. Your greatest offence is that you allowed yourself to be chosen by God. But you owe the devil no apology.
It could just be your early morning prayer in the midst of sinners that will bring you adversary, it could be because of your close relationship with the Holy Spirit or your strict adherence to holiness that will bring up adversaries.
It is possible you will get adversaries even from your household, as a man's enemies will be members of his household and moreover anyone who accepts Jesus must know that he will be in conflict with mother-inlaws, sisters, brothers and the likes.
"Lord, how they have increased who trouble me! Many are they who rise against me. Many are they who say of me, 'there is no help for him in God.'" - Psalm 3:1-2
The adversaries are so many and even though you've done nothing wrong, except because you accepted Jesus - they will keep rising.
What did you ever do to that ancestor who is angry because you accepted Jesus. Even though you're not the one who paid allegiance to him. My friend, you don't need to step on the devil's toes before he becomes a thorn in your flesh. And even though you step on his toes, yes, it's suppose to be so - it is an agreement of the Word of God.
Don't start feeling sorry that you're having enemies even though you didn't do nothing.
"And I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why do i still suffer persecution? Then the offense of the cross has ceased." - Gal 5:11
"How can you be leading prayers and be speaking in tongues?" - that could be your offence for adversaries in the church. The reason why I've lost some friends is because I write scriptures as this.
Sometimes, it is a breaking away from the norm that will attract and gain you enemies.
Don't be sorry, you haven't done anything wrong by showing excellence or expressing spiritual depth. All comes from envy. They did same to Daniel of old and also to Jesus.
THE SNARE OF THE ADVERSARY
"For the flesh lust against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish." - Gal 5:17
The flesh is one of the many adversaries we will face, you must note that the flesh wants you to be carnal, the flesh wants you to be earthly and not heavenly. That is the motive of it all.
The day you decide to cheat along with others or become wicked as others, you will get a break from the adversary. But God forbid that we compromise our faith on the platter of peace-less peace.
Sometimes the world will starve us of love and joy, the people who should cae for us will neglect us. Friends may even forsake you, because you don't 'hangout'. Watch it sir, it is a snare of compromise.
"Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world - the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life - is not of the Father but is of the world." - 1John 2:15-16
If we take the above advice, we will receive hate from the world. My dear friend, the plan of the devil is for you to lose your salvation.
The joy of the wicked is for you to become occupied with activities without a relationship with God. The utmost vision and mission of the wicked is to make you a spiritual invalid... This is the snare of the wicked.
Wouldn't you stop been ensnared, would you not stop becoming an object of lust - this things that seem as pleasure are the things that war against our spiritual life (2 Pet 2:11) - these are adversaries in disguise.
THE NEED TO DEAL WITH THE ADVERSARY
"For a great and effective door has opened to me, and there are many adversaries." - 1Cor 16:9
There are doors of opportunities for you but there are many adversaries of mediocrity, laziness, idleness and of course, spiritual forces.
If you don't deal with the adversaries, you will remain stagnant, if you don't find a way to 'agree' with the adversaries, they will hinder you from even heaven's gate.
The forces of your father's house wants you to be sick and live in penury.
Hello, you haven't gotten to that height the Lord wants you to get to, the plans He has for you are not to be oppressed and depressed. No! You must deal with these adversaries.
"Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, 'get justice for me from my adversary.'" - Luke 18:3
You need to seek justice in a corrupt society, the adversary has cheated you too long that you have become less of yourself.. Don't be bullied around, seek justice.
We must through it all desire heaven, but if we do not realise the existence of adversaries. Heaven's doors will be shut against us (that will not be our portion in Jesus name).
DEAL WITH IT!
"Therefore, take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand." - Eph 6:13
No sane person will face the enemy without the requisite spiritual armor. The first thing you must do after recognising the adversaries is that you need to arm yourself.
The adversaries are stronger than you without your armor.
You must also fight as the need arise on your knees for a victory. For us to continually triumph adversity, we must like that widow persist in prayers.
You are responsible for what becomes of you as the Lord as set before you life and death. If sin is what besets your soul, deal with it before it presents you guilty before the judgement seat of Christ.
"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." - 1 Pet 5:8
He is your adversary not mine, he is assigned to truncate your destiny, it is left to you what the outcome will be. Men ought always to pray...don't faint my brother - pray.
Jesus said, be wise as the serpent and gentle as the dove - it indeed points us to the fact that sobriety is indeed one of the tactics of dealing with the enemy. Wisdom is key too as David said, the Lord has made him wiser than his enemies.
If you need to outsmart the enemy, you may be a 'peacemaker' to them but that will put coals on the enemy's head. That is wisdom.
Nehemiah's adversaries who stood against building back the walls of Jerusalem weren't confrontational in their approach, but the moment he recognised them, he outsmarted them.
CONCLUSION:
Put on the whole armor, be prayerful, be sober and apply wisdom to 'agree' with your adversary. It is important.
God bless you and I love you
