JUST ONE THING
"What is crooked cannot be made straight, and what is lacking cannot be numbered." - Ecc 1:15
Just one thing could be the missing link to make everything complete, just one thing missing could render a whole lot useless and meaningless.
The missing link in our lives could be many, yet most people can sum it up to one thing and that could be the centre of their life pursuit. To some, vision could be what is missing, yet it will make life a whole lot better.
If only we all knew that one thing that would make our lives perfect, if only we could recognise that one thing that is missing, if only we knew that one thing to do; then we can pursue it with all zeal.
There are lots of 'one thing' in people's lives that is missing, some joy is missing, to some satisfaction is lost, some thought money will be a substitute for peace yet they have just realised that it doesn't fill that one thing.
What is lacking indeed cannot be numbered.
ONE THING YOU LACK
"Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, 'One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me.'" - Mark 10:21
How can he, who had all the wealth in this world still lack anything? The young man has laboured all his life thinking money was the substitute for a good life, he had fulfilled all the commandments, thinking that was his saving grace - but if the Holy Spirit doesn't reveal to us, the emptiness of our soul, we can only but embark on an unending search for peace.
What was lacking in this man's life was sacrifice, what was lacking in his life was the cross of Jesus, what was lacking in his life was the fact that his heavenly account was empty... No one on earth could have found that out except Jesus.
Dear friend, you who have lost your peace and do not really know that which you lack, you have always thought it was companionship, though you have it yet you feel lonely, you have gone on an unending search for wealth, yet there is no peace... What you lack is the cross of Jesus.
Until you carry the cross, you can't wear the crown. Until you have treasures in heaven, you will keep suffering for earthly treasures under intense pressure.
"Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy." - 1Tim 6:17
The riches of this world are uncertain and it would be a mistake, a costly one at that to think it is a substitute to the cross.
God wants to bless us richly, but He doesn't want us to put our trust in riches, if you do, it will only give you emptiness and life we be vain to you. The person who lives a vain life here will be irrelevant in heaven.
Let God be the treasure of your heart, let the cross be your pursuit, let His glory be your aim, and sure you would have found that which is lacking.
ONE THING YOU MUST DO
"Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead" - Phil 2:13
We live in a world where people derive joy dwelling in the past, whether it be for good or for bad, the past seem to be the dwelling place of many.
No matter the heights you have attained, no matter the records you have broken, irrespective of the hurts and the pain - you must let go to let God.
This one thing of blissful forgetfulness is necessary in the believer's life in order to forge ahead, the heights you've gotten to, is not the limit of what God can do, the pains of the past, is not the end of your life, this one thing you need to do is to forget.
"Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert." - Isaiah 43:18-19
If you don't forget the past, new things will definitely elude you. You need to believe God for a new thing, because even His mercies are new every morning.
Your experience with God yesterday is not the height of it all, you must always be with an expectation and to do that you must always forget that which is past. This one thing is very vital.
ONE THING IS NEEDED
"But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her." - Luke 10:42
There are those who play religious activities in place of the relationship and fellowship. Those set of people have lost that which is needed and they have embrace that which is optional.
Don't compromise your quiet time in place of church work or welfare ministry, don't loose touch of the fire that every believer needs, don't be too proud to become an absentee at the feet of Jesus, if not, you will be doing most things and losing one needful thing.
The person who does the needful cannot be cheated out of it, even if Martha had not been serving that day, they still would have ate all the same, I know so, because Jesus Himself was the welfare minister that day when He fed five thousand, if you do the needful God will do the necessary Himself.. Don't let anyone rob you of the bread of life.
"But He answered and said, 'It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.''" - Matt 4:4
The words that proceeds out of the mouth of God is the top needful thing for us. We must eat His word to truly live here.
Anyone who doesn't do the needful by sitting at Jesus' feet will become a chaff easy to be cast away.
ONE THING YOU MUST DESIRE
"One thing I have desired of the LORD, that will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD, all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in His temple." - Psalm 27:4
The person who desires the presence of the Lord has found a safe haven to rest his soul. One who makes the awesome presence of God his delight we forever be transformed by His glory. Him who has got a glimpse of the Lord has found the desire of eternity.
After Adam and Eve sinned, the whole quest of man is to be able to fit in into His presence, because God chased them out of His awesome presence. The believer's all in all will be to enter into heaven the summit of His presence.
David pleaded when He fell not to be cast away from the presence, he understood that the presence is the security and pleasure for every life. The presence of the Lord must be an unquenchable obsession in our lives.
"O GOD, You are my God; early will I seek You; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water. So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, to see Your power and Your glory." - Psalm 63:1-2
I find words now to encourage you to desire the presence of God in your life, when His presence is in your life, He will announce your presence to the world.
The man who desires the presence of the Lord will always live in the supernatural.
Make His presence your desire, there's beauty there!
CONCLUSION: There are many 'one thing' yet these 'one things' are unnumbered and they are the missing links for a complete life.
Find that one thing!
God bless you and I love you.
