INTRIGUES OF A LOVER
"But Saul had given Michal his daughter, David's wife, to Palti the son of Laish, who was from Gallim." - 1Sam 25:44
"So David sent messengers to Ishbosheth, Saul's son, saying, 'Give me my wife Michal, whom I betrothed to myself for a hundred foreskins of the Philistines." - 2Sam 3:14
After risking his life going to war just because of a princess, she was handed over to another person. The price he paid for her was too great to just let things be, he had showed the height of his love in order to call Michal his wife, how on earth will her father, king Saul betray him like that? How can he overlook that, the war he fought was also for the security of the nation Israel. David wasn't going to lie low on this, he wouldn't just forget the sacrifice; he wanted her and he insisted on her.
The man whom they gave her to was weeping going after Michal; what is it about this lady that a man would be crying after, he didn't want her to go; but the one who paid a higher price has the say. He was no longer that fugitive, Saul is dead; he was soon to be the king. He had a right, so he wasn't just lording, he wanted his wife whom he had risked so much for. This Michal loved David in turn, she loved the strong valiant man that could risk his life for her, by her wisdom at a point, she saved David from her father.
This affair suddenly turned soar, the day she saw her husband dancing before the ark of the Lord; she felt it was below royalty and she despised David in her heart, David was not going to have any divided loyalty, he rebuked her and their adventure hit rock bottom; Michal too became barren, she had lost her husband and she had gained barrenness also.
The story above is no fiction; it was a shadow of the love affair that exist between you and God. He paid a heavy price for you, He sent his only begotten son to die; he wants our loyalty and dedication - when we think of the price He paid we just melt in love; but the one who deceives us, come after us to make us have divided loyalty. This devil just entices but wouldn't risk himself for us; and we are not consistent in our love.
The scriptures says; 'For you were bought with a price..." - 1Cor 6:20
It's no small price, Jesus didn't just risk His life; He gave His life, He wasn't forced to lay it down; He had a choice, but He chose to die - He didn't just die, He was scorched and the pains mere mortals inflicted on the Son of God was indeed a big deal.
Yet in all of this, He keeps fighting for whom He had redeemed, He keeps facing different episodes of wavering love from us. How long will He keep up with you? How much of pain will you keep causing the LORD? Don't let His love just go like that...
Your lover is calling...
RAGE OF A BETRAYED LOVER
"After a while, in the time of wheat harvest, it happened that Samson visited his wife with a young goat. And he said, 'Let me go in to my wife, into her room.' But her father would not permit him to go in. Her father said, 'I really thought that you thoroughly hated her; therefore I gave her to your companion. Is not her sister better than she? Please, take her instead." - Judges 15:1-2
Imagine what this father-in-law was saying? With clenched teeth (I assume), he would have been filled with rage. On his way to pay the dowry, a lion challenged him, he risked his life - and here, this father-in-law was saying 'he thought...' He was even more angry when he found out that it was his best man, who betrayed him and took his wife. How can these people just take his efforts as a joke. He wasn't suppose to marry a Philistine, yet he was moved by 'love'; he risked his life and get they counted it for nothing, to add insult to injury they gave his wife to his best man.
She betrayed him by telling the answer of a riddle to her kinsmen, yet he was not going to allow that discourage him. He thought love was forgiving, He was even a gentleman, he brought a small goat as a gift, yet the father denied him intimacy with his wife.
Samson was not going to let the sleeping dog lie, he took revenge on a whole country just because of a woman. He was angry and who would blame a jealous lover. Why agree to marry him when you never had intention of intimacy. He was indeed angry! No one could pacify this Samson, only his wife would do. He threw a party, who was going to refund him. If she had been dead, he would have understood, but here someone was in between him and he took his pound of flesh.
"Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, 'The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously'?" - James 4:4-5
At several times, you have made yourself an enemy of God, you deny the Lord intimacy and He often wonders if you have forgotten or deliberately choose to ignore all of his sacrifices. You only have shown love in the good times, but at the time of little trial, you have thought that the Lord hates you and you have gone to dine with the devil. He has come and has not found you waiting, He seeks privacy but He just found out that you have played the harlot and have allowed Lucifer who was an angel from time past into your heart.
A jealous God is angry with a generation He has so bestowed His grace; He is angry that you have permitted the enemy to come in between the love. You were not deserving of the love, but something called GRACE came in to play and the Lord thought He had you. The betrayal hurts so deeply that, He sneers at your betrayal. What have you done - don't you see that this deceiver cannot save you. The friendship you have with the world has cost you intimacy with God.
"For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy. For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ." - 2Cor 11:2-3
The lover of our soul is jealous over us, He hurts when we are deceived to our own hurt; He hates to see the consequences of that deception upon us; yet we think we are helpless in the hands of the devil. The consequence of your adultery will be grievous o dear friend.
CRAFTY ADULTERER
"And the woman conceived; so she sent and told David, and said, 'I am with child.' Then David sent to Joab, saying, 'Send me Uriah the Hittite.' And Joab sent Uriah to David." - 2Sam 11:5-6
Innocent Uriah was a man of valour, he was loyal to the Lord, loyal to the king and loyal to his wife; he kissed her good bye and told her he will surely come back from the war. Maybe then Yahweh would give them a reward in form of a baby; but he loved his wife so much. Never thought he would ever be betrayed; their house was close to the palace, more security for his beloved wife. Only to be sent to come back home; the king had conspired...
David wanted to act as if all was well, he had impregnated Uriah's wife, but he wanted to cover his tracks. The only possession the man owed had been coveted.
David didn't feel like apologising, he thought no one would know, he had tasted her; he has even done Uriah a favour - what he couldn't do all these years, he had done it for him. He wasn't ashamed, after all he was the king. He was driven by lust and didn't care of his integrity, the guards must have been whispering, but they must not say a word! This king, when he wasn't conquering kingdoms, he was conquering women.
When the conspiracy didn't work, he sent Uriah's death sentence by the hand of Uriah himself to Joab the executioner. If Uriah won't accept this favour, he has to leave this earth all the same. The man Uriah never knew someone had betrayed him, he was loyal, he trusted his king, he trusted his wife - but nothing can indeed separate him from the love of Christ. He died for loving, he died for trusting, he died for being faithful - yet the Lord was for Him.
"He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy." - Prov 28:13
David didn't have the option of an abortion that time, but you have and you've taken the route; you didn't need to kill anyone physically, you only did what was needed. No one will know and of course, most prophets have been blinded by money they are now blind to sin! You and the man have covered your tracks and of course no third party to kill. You think you're wise, you can't afford the disgrace, you're a church leader and everyone looks up to you as they did David. You have a reputation to protect. After all, when the fetus is dead, you still marry the woman.
The Lord is not ignorant of our trespass, He had suffered for our sins on Calvary, yet we bring Him to an open shame in the world today. He demanded faithfulness, faithfulness to be truthful even when will fall, but we have chosen to hide it. Your confessions were not sincere because you think you owe no one an explanation - guilt is killing you but you think you can cope. You can't and won't prosper, the Lord Himself is the one you have betrayed, you wanted to play Him for a fool; and say 'it's no big deal'.
Please, what ever happened to godly sorrow? What ever happened to pertinence? What ever happened to confession? - you know what to do to make it right, but you have chosen to be under the cover of sin. You will indeed not prosper. You're an infidel you who once was pronounced the bride of Christ have stumbled and wouldn't ask for a mending.
COME BACK
"they said to Him, 'Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?'" - John 8:4-5
Many would want to know what their spouse who they cheated on thinks; they brought that woman to Jesus and wanted to test Him; but what they didn't know was that, Jesus Himself was also the one offended - He could choose to forgive her and say 'no case', and that was exactly what He did, she didn't just cheat on her husband, but she also cheated on Jesus and He has chosen to forgive her. The accusers were disappointed, they wanted 'blood to flow'; they didn't know that the offended can forgive.
It's possible you're too ashamed and the consequence of your disloyalty is heavy upon you; but you can come to the one whose love can never change. The Lord loves you and it has not changed to hate, come to Him who is love Himself, that's the safest place. When lovers disagree they come and talk; He also says: 'Come, let us reason together..Isaiah 1:18
"'They say, 'If a man divorces his wife, and she goes from him and becomes another man's, may he return to her again?' Would not that land be greatly polluted? Buy you have played the harlot with many lovers; yet return to Me,' says the LORD." - Jer 3:1
Dear Christian, you can still be His lover, you can still enjoy the intimacy; the Lord holds no grudge, the Lord is not bitter, He is the offended, yet He is the Restorer, in all the stunt you have pulled - you have wounded yourself, yet the Lord wants to heal you. The price He laid is too precious to let you go; He wants you back. Don't die an adulterer, don't die the guilty one, your sins which were many, He will remember no more!
It's possible you have been disappointed by the devil, all the things that seem enticing are now a mirage, you just discovered that all the pleasures of the devil comes with a sting. The love the devil gives you brings fear, you are afraid and you don't feel clean. The Lord says return, return and be His bride again, return and let your forever be secured in Him.
CONCLUSION
All the dramas of unfaithfulness and disloyalty has to stop; the one who died for you calls you back to a love affair of a life time.
Come back to the one who loves you.
