GOOD MEN, GOOD NEWS
"So the watchman said, 'I think the running of the first is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok.'And the king said, 'He is a good man, and comes with good news.'" - 2Sam 18:27
The news a man bear or carry determines his character. No one can separate a man from the news that he reports as the matter will tell of his person. The one who is a talebearer and carries slanderous news about is of a questionable character.
I hope your eyes will be open to watch the news you spread, maybe you're found of bringing bad news, maybe it's also not your fault but you only say what you see...yet the Lord wants you to check your life.
While we look at you from afar, and approaching the brethren, there is a predefined mental view we have of you...
You must as a matter of urgency begin to make conscious effort to bear good news, the things you say must begin to edify, the thought that occupy your mind must be filtered to become good. You are as good as the news you bear.
THE MAN IS TRANSFORMED BY THE NEWS
"A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things." - Matt 12:35
How can a prostitute talk about sexual purity, how can an alcoholic speak on the benefit of being sober? No matter how convincing they appear to be, it can never make them good people. The things that you are made up of makes the news that proceeds out of you. It is not about acting or pretence, when you take heed of your character, your reputation for good news will follow. You will not only bear good news but people will also spread the news of you.
The shepherds were reputed to be wise, they had understanding and were godly, so they became the news bearer for the birth of Jesus, God will not commit good news to bad men, He will not send bad men on good errands. He will make the men first before He sends them.
Everyone likes good news, and I do also, but if you bear good news and you are bad, you will become a false witness, the blemish of your life will taint the news, the converts you're suppose to convert will be more brutal.
"I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran. I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied." - Jer 23:21
I hope you realise that what the Lord wants to achieve with our lives, is that our lifestyle becomes the good news itself, there are many who would want to handle good news but their lives aren't good yet. There should be no contradiction between the news you carry and your life.
It is hypocrisy to bear the news that does not impact you, if you live the life you preach, the impact will be massive, if you preach the life you don't live, the effect will boomerang and you will become a deceiver.
GOOD NEWS TELLS ITSELF
"And the report about Him went out into every place in the surrounding region." - Luke 4:37
If only we would do more good and worry less about making an impression. Many people would not do anything except they are sure it brings good report. Many would only help men if such men would sing their praise, but that is undue payment of advert and an hypocritical way of living.
Cornelius's good offering reached heaven, the secret life of Dorcas came to the fore when it needed to be on display, it is an anomaly to be the one paying for your publicity, just do good and allow such news of good spread itself at the time when it is most needed. Even if the world doesn't see it, God will see it.
If we commit our lives to doing good, our report will go forth itself. Don't be like the hypocrites who are bent on telling their good works, don't be deceived to think you are making impact if you're the one telling of the impact. That one is not testimony, it is hypocrisy!
"For no one does anything in secret while he himself seeks to be known openly. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world." - John 7:4
Jesus' brothers wanted Jesus to be caught in the trap of fame, they wanted to compromise the motive of His mission, which was love, compassion and mercy. If He did it for fame, He would have been chasing shadows and neglected the substance.
How we spend more to advertise than to do the good, how we wouldn't give except there is a camera to capture the moment, we often refuse to work for God except the pastor knows about it, we are so concerned about the platform more than the life.
How I wish you will stop bothering about the news that goes from you and concentrate on your call, the news will spread itself. What will be the use if men know and heaven does not recognise it. It is more profitable for heaven to know while the news doesn't spread.
It will take discipline of character to be subject to this view from heaven.
BAD MEN HATE GOOD NEWS
"When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him." - Matt 2:3
It wouldn't make a difference to those condemned to hell even when they hear of God's loving kindness, it will offend some people that you have the good news of the gospel and they would want to harm you.
How did the news of Herodias daughter's feat at the dancehall suddenly turned into the head of John the Baptist? The news of Christ is always annoying to the enemies of the gospel and it is doom that befalls such people.
How can you be angry that the church is speaking of holiness, how come you are offended that someone is still a virgin? What is your envy about? You must begin to check yourself on how you react to good news.
"So the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'There is still one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of the LORD; but I hate him, because he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil.' And Jehoshaphat said, 'Let not the king say such things!'" - 1Kings 22:8
I chide you today too, stop saying such awful things about your pastor because He says the truth, stop painting a person black because they tell you good news for correction, check, substantiate the news before you discard it.
I have seen people who make good things look bad, I have come across people who speak of virtue as a blemish, we come across those who enjoy speaking perverse things on the altar of fun. These people can never be considered as good.
Good news sometimes will not be soothing, it may be heard as undue criticism, but if you are meek enough, you will bless God for His good news. Good news reach us so we can be good, but it has unfortunately made some people worse than they were before.
GOOD NEWS CAN CHANGE A MAN
"And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the LORD your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath." - Joshua 2:11
How a chief prostitute was changed by the news of the wonders and judgements of God, how she found mercy because of the good news she heard. The news she heard made her tremble with reverence seeking salvation for her life.
It is not an accident that you hear that man by the street corner, 'Jesus is coming soon', 'amend your ways', 'flee fornication', they are news that can change you, then you will know that it is indeed good news!
We have all heard of statements that changed the course of some people's lives, we have heard them quote such statement over an over again, but I need you to consider the good news of Christ, I need you to love the news of Christ and embrace it well, for it is the 'goodest' news a person can receive.
"Now when they heard this, they were cut to heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, 'Men and brethren, what shall we do?'" - Acts 2:37
Those pierced hearts that cried sought the good of the news, it made them cry, it made them foolish, the news of the gospel hit them badly but it brought them a healing. It consoled them of all hurts and moved them to be at peace with God.
The true test of the news we hear is in its effect on our lives, if it makes us good then it is good news no matter how we felt when we heard it. Just as chastening may not be too nice on a child, yet it is out of love that it is done.
Even our faith will be built by the news of the Word. We must begin to make conscious effort to become changed by the good news we hear.
CONCLUSION: Receive good news into your life to become a sharer of good news.
