AGE MATTERS

"So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom" - Psalm 90:12

When a child refuses to walk at 12months, it is legitimate for the parents to worry, because the age of the child isn't telling. No matter how a girl acts matured, puberty will not come until certain age, menopause comes with age - age is the teller and decider of such a phase. If we become so much in a hurry and don't allow age bring to us experiences as it is ordained, we would worry and be anxious for nothing.

It is also possible that if you do not number your days and know what is expected of you at certain age - you may have been wasting your life and that would be a pointer that wisdom is lacking. If a man of forty years isn't marry and doesn't really have a valid reason, then his age is  a waste.

We often say age doesn't matter, well - age can be a measure of time and a direction for life. I may not be able to give a full scale of certain age and their characteristics as this may differ from person to person - but I can sure direct your mind to see that age aren't just for design but they should be a guide to man.

The scriptures says that the young men would see vision and the old men will dream, it therefore tells that if at your youth, you do not have a vision - your age has not spoken. If an old man desires to be seeing vision, where will he find the strength to run with it. It is not a crime to be old, every stage of life has its unique characteristics and we must number our days to gain a heart of wisdom.

HOW OLD ARE YOU?
"Pharaoh said to Jacob, 'How old are you?' And Jacob said to Pharaoh, 'The days of the years of my pilgrimage are one hundred and thirty years; few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and they have not attained to the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.'" - Gen 47:8-9

When Pharaoh asked the simple question of Jacob, experience was the reply Jacob handed over. It is important for us to know that age should naturally tell of experience. If a man tells me he is fifty, it will not be wrong to ask about his children. If as youths we do not have an experience to tell of every natural occurrence of the youthful age, then something is wrong.

If as a youth, your glory isn't in your strength that is, the mental, physically and spiritually strength - then you need to check yourself. The ministry of Jesus was in His youth. He started showing the natural curiosity at the age of twelve. It was natural that, at that age such things should be expected.

This is not to create anxiety inside of you so as to be in a rush and make mistake into pursuing wealth through illegality. It is rather an assessment of the inward capabilities and endowments from God. If a man who has numbered his age doesn't have requisite experience or wisdom from that age, then something has gone wrong. It is not about possession but responsibility and understanding. You're forty and you are scared of responsibility, then something is wrong. You are a youth and God hasn't spoken to you about a vision for your life, something is wrong.

"And the LORD said, My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years." - Gen 6:3

How long will your flesh strife with God? The average life expectancy in Nigeria is 52 or there about as at 2013, and your soul is still striving with God. This flesh cannot please God because it profits nothing. If the average life expectancy in Nigeria catches up with you, what would be your lot?

In the Bible days, the life expectancy was high and most times, some of the heroes of faith had already experienced God, pleasing your flesh through this age will not spell right. We must know that the scriptures indeed tells the youth to remember His creator now! You may become unbendable when you are 50, your productivity would have reduced.

Dear friend, how old are you? Are there delays in your life?, it is possible that the delay is as a result of lack of wisdom, be it spiritual or whatever - wisdom of age should make you rise up to the challenge of that age and apply wisdom therein.

HE IS OF AGE
"Therefore, his parents said, 'He is of age; ask him.'" - John 9:23

This man that was of age in the scripture above, was actually born blind, but that didn't stop his age from counting, that didn't stop life to demand certain things from him. He was man enough, in fact the disciples asked who sinned that this 'man'. He was a man.

Do not think that because of some challenges that time would stop counting age for you. When you become of age - you will be demanded to give account of your life. Your parents won't be there to explain why you are a drunk, your parents won't be there to answer for you because - you are of age! When the parents said this, they had to turn to the man to ask.

Hello friend, if you can comprehend this piece then you are of age, and I will ask you questions. Can you see visions now? Have you seen Jesus? Are you convinced in the power of God to do all things. Are you responsible? How old are you? and what experience can you say of that age. It doesn't matter what your past life is, this age can still speak noble things for you. It just takes Jesus to intervene - that was the exact thing that happened to that man.

"from twenty years old and above - all who were able to go to war in Israel. You and Aaron shall number them by their armies." - Num 1:3

"Number the children of Levi by their fathers' houses, by their families; you shall number every male from a month old and above." - Num 3:15

While at twenty, you must understand that life is warfare, and that life will wage serious war on you. You must understand that your defence is your responsibility and you must brace up for it. You will be counted as an adult and not a teenager, and if you slack, you will bear the burden. You are of age dear friend.

The Levites of old were considered priests who forever, were dedicated to the service of God, and from the tender age of 30days they were considered priests. But you now are even a royal priesthood, and it is required that you should have known Christ and growing in Him. You should be of age now as regards righteousness and holiness.

You are not too small to set the standard of righteousness, you are of age. You are not too small to experience the raw power of God - you are of age. Do not say you are a child! If you are up to twenty, be ready to face life, if you are below twenty and then above twenty - you are a royal priesthood.

AGE IS NOT WISDOM
"I said 'Age should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.' But there is a spirit in man, and the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding, great men are not always wise, nor do the aged always understand justice." - Job 32:7-9

It is important to state here that counsel and wisdom may not necessarily have to do with age, as men who are old have shown us that wisdom is far from them. Sometimes when a person refuses make use of the youthful age, it will be wrong to expect wisdom from such a person at old age. They could just have experiences and regrets - but that is not wisdom.

The Spirit of God in a man can make Him wise at any age, Jesus at a tender age grew in wisdom, because of the Spirit of God inside of Him, we cannot begin to wait till we are fifty before we gain wisdom, the Spirit of Christ is the Spirit of wisdom and the criteria for it isn't age, but the thirsty who purely desire it.

Your parents aren't always wise, maybe that's a shocker to you and it may look disrespectful, but it is the truth. Though wisdom on your part should make you listen and obey. Don't confuse experience for wisdom. Wisdom is purely divine and I mean wisdom is of God to give to any man. Knowledge is not wisdom. The Lord is the giver of wisdom and it is wisdom to seek it early and you know that, the fear of the Lord is indeed the beginning of wisdom.

"I have more understanding than all my teachers, for Your testimonies age my meditation. I understand more than the ancients, because I keep Your precepts." - Psalm 119:99-100

Those who play religion to become righteous are lacking in wisdom. Those who hold on to traditions more than the word will find out their foolishness in a bad way. It is wisdom to obey the scriptures in truth and not in traditions. Don't be intimidated by anyone who imposes methods as a substitute for the spiritual life.

There are depths that God can be unfolded to you and the aged will never fathom it - Solomon at several times in the scriptures, urged the young to embrace wisdom and never let it go. Please do not look down on your age, seek wisdom and let it guide you for ages. It will guide you to make the best out of every age.

What an elder sees while sitting down, the young man will not see while on the tree is just a matter of experience, then wisdom is expected of the young man to avoid the mistake. If you make the right decision from the elder's view - then you are wise, not the old man. This is not to say that old people are not always wise, it is just to show that wisdom doesn't necessarily have to be an age factor.

WHEN AGE IS JUST A NUMBER
"As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in." - Joshua 14:11

The supernatural could be at work in a man and it will cause the man to defile the weakness that age brings. It will make the man defile natural laws that comes with age. This was the exact case of Caleb, and he wasn't just making mouth or boasting falsely - at the age of 85years, he actually conquered the land that was allotted to him when they got to the promised land.

Are you fifty and you think age is not on your side anymore, remember that Sarah did not consider the deadness of her womb. Are you forty and yet to be married, remember the scriptures clearly says that non shall lack her mate. The supernatural will surely supercede the natural, so age can become insignificant when God steps into your case.

Do not also consider that age is not on your side as regards breakthrough, the favour of God in one day can wipe out thousands of years of labour. Though men say you have lost years but that is not God's verdict!

"Moses was one hundred and twenty years old when he died. His eyes were not dim nor his natural vigor diminished." - Deut 34:7

Don't let them tell you that old people will always have diabetes, don't let anyone input sickness into your life because you are aged. It is time to allow the supernatural override the natural occurrence that age brings. God called Moses at 80, you can still be used as long as the supernatural is at work.

Some were made kings as teenagers because God permitted it, God did not use age in choosing David as king, in fact God warned Jeremiah not to say he is a child, if he had he was a child, he would have believed so...Paul charged Timothy not to allow anyone look down on him, when the supernatural is at work, age is of no consequence.

I strongly believe God on your behalf, that what seems to be of disadvantage to you, will be of advantage in the end. Don't despair, whether young or old - lean on the supernatural and age will not matter.

CONCLUSION: Age can tell, age can demand, but age isn't wisdom and cannot be the factor for God in your matter. You are of age!

God bless you and I love you
