CHARIOTS
"And Elisha saw it, and he cried out, 'My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen!' So he saw him no more. And he took hold of his own clothes and tore them into two pieces." - 2Kings 2:12
Nothing like it has ever been seen, that a man would be caught up so suddenly by a rear sight. It wasn't just about the chariot or the horses - it was more fascinating because they were branded with fire! The man who called fire from heaven had fire on his flight to heaven.
All Elisha could do was to cry out. Elisha was able to see the real weapon of warfare for Israel, he cried when he saw the secret of Israel's many victories in war. When the children of Israel assembled for war with spears, Elisha understood clearly then that, there are always invisible burning chariots with horses. Indeed the weapons of our warfare are not carnal!
Elisha couldn't run after this chariot, it wasn't man-made, this was manufactured in heaven. That occurrence gave us a glimpse of rapture, how we will, in a twinkle of an eye be caught up to the Father.
Whatever goes up must come down, but not this chariot - it was meant for a destination up above.
Chariots are vehicles primarily for war, they are also used for transportation. It's not everyone that can afford a chariot, not all kingdoms can afford chariots in their armory. Horses may be available but Egypt had their trust in chariots. For speed and convenience a chariot may be needed.
While many will trust in their chariots for victory, a Christain may only have his God to look unto..many have their confidence of warfare and defense on devices and weapons...but the Lord can cause the supernatural to frustrate the sophistication of technology. This piece is not an in-depth study, but a peep into the significance of this vehicle called the chariot and hos it holds spiritual significance.
SOME TRUST IN CHARIOTS
"Now therefore, I urge you, give a pledge to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses - if you are able on your part to put riders on them! How then will you repel one captain of the least of my master's servants, and put your trust in Egypt for chariots and horsemen?" - 2Kings 18:23-24
It was a gloomy day for Judah when there was a threat to their existence from Assyria. The servants of Assyria boasted against the Lord, they trusted in their armory and knew that even Egypt cannot stand a chance, even if they had chariots. Judah didn't even have enough men to mount horses for the challenge and Assyria trusted in their own horses and chariots.
The enemy looks more sophisticated than the child of God who holds only the scripture, in fact the sophistication of the enemy may scare the living out of all, and they may blaspheme against God and tell us that 'our faith cannot save us' - all these boast is indeed against the Lord.
Never you depend on the enemy's chariot for your war, it will ruin the battle. Isaiah 31:1 tells that woe unto those who trust in the chariot of Egypt
"Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the LORD our God." - Psalm 20:7
It is only the name of the Lord that the Christian hold unto, the enemy has chants and charms, but the only thing we can remember is the name given to us. It looks very simple because even the devil may jest with the name - and the enemy ask us to be wise and not even try to resist his attempts. But thou child of God remember the name.
Most times, the enemy wouldn't even come when we are vigilant, he may come and threaten the child of God through lack and insist that we compromise - but a genuine child will trust in the name of the Lord, that is the only asset the Christain has.
The world trust in statistics and forecast, they believe in funds, they have saves and they think they are saved..the child of God does does have such security but only depend on the name of the Lord.
"The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but deliverance is of the LORD." - Prov 21:31
Even if the child of God has many things to serve as security and defense, he must not put his trust on them, it is the Lord who gives victory. It is the Lord who shields, it is the Lord who fights our battle - don't put your trust in horses and chariots.
FAILED CHARIOTS
"And He took off their chariot wheels, so that they drove them with difficulty; and the Egyptians said, 'Let us flee from the face of Israel, for the LORD fights for them against the Egyptians.'" - Exo 14:25
Suddenly, all their confidence vanished when their chariots developed mechanical faults, they couldn't understand how the weapons of their warfare were failing, it was this same chariot that had brought them victories in the past, how come it is failing here? By strength no man will prevail - when the Lord fights for you, the chariots of your enemy will fail.
Though the children of Israel expressed fears at the sight of the Egyptians chariot, but the Lord is the mighty man of war. The very things that enemy seem to have against you will perish, their mighty will fall and the weapons of their warfare will surely be destroyed.
The enemy may be chasing you because you have left your Egypt, the enemy may be saying that they can't let you go just like that, they all come in form of friends and even foes, but the Lord will take of their wheels and they shall perish in the red sea in Jesus name.
OVERTAKE THE CHARIOT
"Then the hand of the LORD came upon Elijah; and he girded up his loins and ran ahead of Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel." - 2Kings 18:46
Ahab had chariots and the prophet of God had 'chaLEGs'; but when the hand of the Lord came upon Elijah, he outran the latest chariot of Ahab. It is possible that those who have amassed the gain of iniquity are going far ahead of you with unlimited speed; but not to worry, when the hand of the Lord comes upon you - you will outrun their chariot.
There is a speed that the Lord would grant a man, such a speed will be beyond the man himself, if God does not grant you speed, you will walk when you should be running - He only needs to place His hands upon you and you will overtake.
God assured David to pursue his enemies and that he would overtake, it was only God's speed that would have made such possible. Be careful to know that the pace of your journey is not determined by another's pace - in His time, He will take you there. The rain didn't drop until Elijah arrived Jezreel...Even if your adversary gets there first, everything will be put on hold until your arrival. They only left in chariots for nothing.
"Then the Spirit said to Philip, 'Go near and overtake this chariot." - Acts 8:29
Dear preacher, don't be afraid of the expensive cars or their faces, you have a message to give to that confused man who doesn't know a thing about eternity, you need to obey the spirit of God and help set that rich man free from his misery.
I really do not know how Philip could overtake such chariot but I know that He who is born of the spirit is like the wind. He looked beyond the beautiful ride, he didn't use that opportunity to start asking God for a blessing like that...no, he was used to show us that, there is something more advanced than technology.
Whose chariot is it? that has gone ahead, do you despair and wonder if you will ever meet up, are you afraid or feeling inferior? Don't let a worldly possession stop you from sharing heavenly treasures inside of you. You have a mandate and the chariots of men has nothing to oppress you with.
CONCLUSION: You need to get to that stage where you trust in the chariot of fire! Only then will all other chariots at your chase fail.
