HOMELESS JESUS
"And Jesus said to him, 'Foxes have holes and birds of the air have
nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.'" - Luke 9:58
It seems the problem of accommodation is a spiritual challenge Jesus had to deal with all through His sojourn on earth, because how can one explain Him not even finding a place to be born - He had to squat with horses in order to be born.
One of the greatest need of man is shelter apart from feeding and clothing. Jesus seem to have a foundational problem with shelter that even the foxes and birds were better in that regard comparatively.
How can He whose habitat is the heart of men find rest in the house of men? How can He who should reside in our hearts only have space for Him in our minds.
He couldn't find rest even in the tomb because He isn't meant to be there except to be living in our hearts.
Dear heartlord, is there space for Jesus to occupy in your heart or maybe you couldn't bear His character and way of life, you have decided to give Him quit notice....Has His rent expired or what has happened?
Jesus is looking for accommodation in your heart.
WHERE DO YOU STAY?
"Then Jesus turned, and seeing them following, said to them, 'what do you seek?' They said to Him, 'Rabbi' (which is to say, when translated, Teacher), 'where are You staying?' He said to them, 'Come and see.' They came and saw where He was staying, and remained with Him that day (now it was about the tenth hour)." - John 1:38-39
These disciples were tracing Jesus to know His house, maybe He was He like His cousin John whose house was the wilderness and people had to go and meet Him there. He couldn't give them an address of where He was staying, the place wasn't described in the Scripture, but He had to show them His temporary location.
Why are you tracing Jesus to different churches and looking for where He really dwells when He can be so close in your heart. You don't know that the reason why you feel His presence in a location is because He resides in the hearts of those people present in such location?
Anytime we confess Jesus publicly, there are people who keep tracing us to see where Jesus resides, or maybe it was a temporary thing.
The genuineness of His residence in your heart will also be traced to your home. It is when Jesus is able to reside in your heart that He can reside in your home. The paintings and stickers of Jesus on your wall does not translate to Him being in your heart.
"David was afraid of the LORD that day; and he said, 'How can the ark of the LORD come to me?'" - 2 Sam 6:9
Some of us are afraid because of the news we've heard about how some Christian fanatics have become a byword, the news of some events or men's experience make us accommodate Jesus at arm's length.
What is your fear? What is the address of Jesus to you? Is He someone afar or is He close by in your heart.
The case of Antioch was the disciples showed that Jesus resides in them.
Please, where have you kept Him? Why is it that we don't see Him in your business, if He resides within you - He will show up everywhere you go to.
BE WORTHY OF HIM
"If the household is worthy, let your peace come upon it. But if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you." - Matt 10:13
What is your attitude or disposition to Jesus, some of us have become unworthy heartlords and we have chased Jesus out of our hearts - such an action can only invite a heart of chaos.
Remember, the Centurion who felt He wasn't worthy to have Jesus as guest, such a man may have disqualified himself for a greater grace for His household.
"And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and saw him, and said to him, 'Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must stay at your house.'" - Luke 19:5
To that man that yearns for Him, He must come to your heart. If you make an attempt to have Him, then He must stay in your heart.
Though on that day many complained, mostly out of envy, they felt they would have been more qualified to host Jesus rather than short Zacchaeus, but to that genuine host, He must honour the invitation.
It doesn't matter what people will say, you must accommodate this "homeless" Jesus, who desires to find His shelter in your heart.
GIVE HIM SPACE
"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me." - Rev 3:20
Yes, this homeless Jesus is standing right at the door of your heart, you can't pretend you didn't hear the knock, you can't pretend as if you don't know who it is that is standing there.
You've kept Him there a while now and you may just be content that He is standing there, it's not meant to be so - He will leave if you don't open, He'll pass if you don't recognise His presence.
He who shelters the universe doesn't really need you to shelter Him, He knows your heart - but courtesy demands that He knocks, He knows the secret lurked in the bottom of your heart. He sees your pain and delights in making such heart His home.
"Abide in Me, and I in you. As a branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you abide Me." - John 15:5
He is that voice that convicts you anytime you go wrong, He is the one that makes you recognise your errors though you haven't given in to Him.
He is homeless now because His home is with you - and the truth is you're homeless until you make Him a home in your heart.
Homeless Jesus seeks your heart.
CONCLUSION:
The Son of Man has found a place to lay His head, but would you allow Him to make a home in your heart?
