THE SECRET LIFE
"And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account." - Heb 4:13
Everyone has a secret life, there is something about your life that no ones sees, yet speaks volume on the outside. Sometimes, you meet a brother who runs everywhere looking dedicated to God, but a contact with him and you just see emptiness - this is because the secret life is not right or he has no secret life with God.
What happens when no one is watching? Even your thought-life is part of your secret life, do you go about being hypocritical and yet you have no life worthy of praise in the secret. It is possible you think God assesses you based on your public life, but please, God is concerned about the secret.
In the bathroom, where no one can see you, in school far away from your parents, in the cover of the dark, what do you do. A secret life with God is an open platform of the manifestation of power and grace. Do not take it for granted.
There are Christians all over now without a quiet time, they don't really pray or study. They just come to the open and desire an open show. A man who does not treasure the power of the secret place with God, will really not make an impact in this life.
GOD HAS A SECRET PLACE
"He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, 'He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.'" - Psalm 91:1-2
Sometimes, I just wonder how some ministers and Christians get so busy for pleasure that they hardly find time to seek God in secret. God wants to have a man who is given to fellowship, who doesn't joke with devotion, not just tradition, but who seeks fellowship with God.
It is in the secret place that the confidence of the believer is built, that was why David could say, 'I will say of the Lord' - acquaintance cannot be built on a casual fellowship, it doesn't work that way. God recognises those who will take time out like Moses and stay in secret to hear what He has to say.
He who dwells, not a visitor, He who dwells, not a squatter, He who dwells not a passer-by, when you wake up and just utter few words and dash out - you have become a passer-by. The Lord recognises those who take time out in fellowship with Him. There is no substitute for a believer who cannot dwell in the secret place.
"But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly." - Matt 6:6
There is a God who demands that you shut the door on yourself, He demands that you leave the open, and come into a place to talk to Him. We live in an era where it is only in programs and revival meetings that some people pray heartfelt prayers. They don't initiate it on personal terms...that's why even what God would have told them privately, they keep running from programs to programs to hear.
This is not to take anything away from congregational prayers as this is necessary too, but a Christain who doesn't meet with God in secret is actually immature and stunted in growth. You will expose yourself too much if you don't stay under His shadow. That's one of the security a child of God takes.
Several times the Lord wants to speak, but we are too busy talking and not going to the secret place. He courts our attention but we are too busy 'doing His work'. You can't be too serious than the Owner of the work Himself. When you don't dwell with Him in secret, you will not be relevant in the open.
YOU CAN'T HIDE YOUR SECRET LIFE
"For there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but that it should come to light." - Mark 4:22
A student who passes his or her exam is a product of a secret life of reading..a person who is given to lustful desires in the open may be a product of pornographic addiction in the secret, do not be deceived, it is what we spend time doing in secret that will materialize in the open.
You can't spend time in secret with God in study, prayers or fellowship and not see an open manifestation of His great grace. God showcases His secret dwellers in the open. This matter cannot be overlooked - if you don't have a spiritual secret life, you will have a carnal one..and of course it cannot be hidden.
A discerning heart will identify an hypocrite fast, and will not be deceived by an open show of pretence. The Sons of Sceva were disgraced in the open when they thought they could fake deliverance ministers. In fact, who are you deceiving? If you've not taken time to seek the anointing or excellence in secret, you will eventually fail in the open.
"If I say, 'Surely the darkness shall fall on me, even the night shall be light about me; indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, but the night shines as the day; the darkness and the light are both alike to You.'" - Psalm 139:11-12
To some who are engage in witchcraft or diabolical things, they take cover under the dark and think that God will not see them...but even the night is as day to the Lord. God sees your secret life and because you think it's done in secret you are excluded from judgement - far from it. The eyes of the Lord will not overlook such.
We cannot become carefree of our thought life also, the man who feeds on lust will eventually be a moral disaster both in church and family life. We cannot overlook the fact that as a man thinks in his heart, so he is. Your emptiness is as a result of compromised secret life, your shallowness is as a result of lack of depth from the secret life.
When will you know that publicity is not what makes a man, I hope you will be awaken to know that popularity without depth is promotion of mediocrity at the detriment of the sheepfold. Men must be made in secret and if they are not made they should better exhibit their folly in secret also.
LEARN FROM JESUS
"Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed. And Simon and those who were with Him searched for Him." - Mark 1:35-36
Our Lord Jesus will not just face the multitude anyhow, He wouldn't just come and open His mouth without first staying in the secret place of the Most High. Power comes from a man who waits in God in fellowship. Let us not be casual about this.
I know the reason why some people's messages haven't changed in a long time, they don't have anywhere for a refreshing so they keep on recycling the same old messages entertaining the congregation with 'variety' of the same message, just because they cannot be like Jesus.
Some ministers and people seem to be intelligent but lack spiritual depth, power cannot be gotten from the pages of newspaper or from google. You may impress the congregation with that but you will definitely not impact them, at least not spiritually. I have not taken anything away from being informed. Even that is a result of a secret life.
"Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops." - Matt 10:27
If we will not hear in the dark, we will not be able to speak a word in season. Don't move about without first getting clearance or direction from God. Effectiveness is sure, when we are given to direction and instructions. The Lord has mysteries to unfold to those who will abide in the secret place.
They already know what you said yesterday and the reason they are coming again is not really for a reminder but to hear something new, but when you don't abide in secret place, you will not have anything new to offer.
Be sensitive don't let the devil cheat you by making you feel it is because you are busy. That is sure a trap of the devil to distract you from your source - please depart from the multitude, let them not see you for a while, run from all the schedule to enter into the secret place because that is your secret for success in the faith.
CONCLUSION: Everyone has a secret life, God dwells in secret, our secret life cannot be hidden even though it is called secret, we must like Jesus use our secret place for spiritual empowerment.
God bless you and I love you
