WITNESSES
"But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that 'by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established." - Matt 18:16
One may not be able to substantiate a matter for settlement without a witness, sometimes it is hard to convict a person without witnesses. In this Christain faith, we need witnesses to go through matters, we need someone to bear witnesses of our trials, sometimes we need a witness to help us tell God that our case is worthy of attention.
We will serve as witnesses for one another so that our integrity can be firm, even when we do not call anyone to witness, by default we live in this world to stand as witness for and against each other - the devil even stand as witness to punish a sinner or an erring Christian.
O, how we need witnesses to get inspired by our walk with God, how we need witnesses to remind us and encourage us of the exploits in time past, we also need willing witnesses to testify of the wondrous and miraculous acts of God. I know God can heal because I have witnessed it first hand. I know God is powerful, because of His works in my life - even me I have witnessed God.
Stones became the available witness for Jacob when he ran away from Laban his uncle, no one was there to bear witness for them, they had no choice but to set up a heap of stone (Gen 31:46-49). Anything can be a witness, when Cain killed Abel, the ground the blood was spilled unto served as a witness against Cain.
If we desperately need a witnesses today, would it be so that they testify of our good work, or would it be for bad, that day Moses never knew someone saw him when he killed the Egyptian, but a witness showed up...O dear Christian, someone has seen you in that place, when you are brought in judgement, someone will testify...except you repent now.
FALSE WITNESS
"You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour." - Exo 20:16
Were you there when the incident happened that you are insisting the people take your word for it, sometimes we become false witness because of 'perceived' things, whether true or untrue. We have slandered many men of God and innocent people because we just 'felt' or heard a rumour. May God have mercy.
I have discovered that many bear false witness because of envy and bitterness, they do not take time to verify things, they just go ahead accusing brethren because they are envious and far. You can't get paid for slandering someone, in fact curses are rained on you. It is becoming a norm in the faith and in the society today, that everyone is sure of what they never witnessed.
Though this may seem out of context but I will state it nonetheless, if you are into sin and you go on witnessing Jesus, you are a false witness, you say we should be righteous and that godliness pays, yet you are a direct opposite of these things, bro you are worse than the devil, you are a false witness. You do not know Christ, you haven't experienced His power yet you say otherwise - you are a false witness - your punishment is in hell.
"A faithful witness does not lie, but a false witness will utter lies." - Prov 14:5
Were you not there when that your church member slept with that sister, yet you claimed you weren't there, because you didn't want to implicate the brother - sir, you are a false witness. The sister told her parents that both of you were together at a vigil and that they should confirm from you about it, but because she had given you a heads-up, you covered for her and said you were indeed together. God frowns at this.
Who were those witnesses who couldn't even add up their accusations against my Lord, when He was crucified? Though it was meant to happen, yet should they have been the ones to cause my Lord so much grief? How we have made ourselves instrument of destruction just out of bitterness and envy. But my Lord forgave them as He would forgive you if you say you are wrong.
Can we bring a matter of righteousness and sin to you this day and can be sure that you are a true witness? Would you change the matter, or will you even just keep quite - you are the same - a false witness. The heavens weep at your case, the earth is in chaos because you have been a false witness. You have aided sin, you also have become an instrument of destruction.
CLOUD OF WITNESS
"Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us" - Heb 12:1
There is nothing hidden from the cloud, that is, the whole world are witnesses for or against us, we who are children of faith must understand that patriarchs have gone ahead and they stand as witness to the work of faith. Heaven is seeing all we are doing, the earth is taking note and the saints and even Jesus is bearing witness to His gospel in our mouth.
Dear Christain, the stakes are high, the audience are packed full, watching and observing our Christain walk, O how the books and monuments bear witness to heroes that have gone ahead. Imagine Usain Bolt on the track, you are sure that the stands are packed full with people cheering, they don't know if he has a cramp or hamstring problem, but because they are there, he wants to make the crowd happy. And that is how it is for us sir, Father Abraham is believing, Apostle Paul is saying press on, King David is encouraging you in the Lord and of course Prophetess Deborah sends her love...Would you not with endurance run this race. Unlike the spectators who may not know Usain Bolt has cramps, the spectators of heaven are aware of your many trials and temptations, they see your heartache and are indeed moved by your test of faith - but you must run this race.
"And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also." - 2Tim 2:2
People saw you that day you came out to give your life to Christ and though the pastor said 'all eyes closed'; but they saw you..they were witnesses that day you were baptised in the Holy Ghost, O how it felt refreshing, a hope of revival was ignited in them - as power is what these witnesses expect.
Witnesses expect to be strengthened by your story, they are there so they can tap into the virtues that are deposited in you - brother, please don't tell us it was fake. We expect something from you, don't change your mind.
And on that day, when Elisha took hold of the mantle of his master Elijah, see the sons of prophets standing at the other side of the Jordan looking to catch a glimpse of heaven's power - and thank God he didn't disappoint, O the river parted and they confirmed that the spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha - there is much more grace available sister, you can resist that temptation, as God will not allow you to be tempted more than you can bear. He wouldn't ask you to be what He has not given you grace to accomplish. Let faith spring in you dear friend, this cloud of witness want you to win and you will in Jesus name.
THE FAITHFUL WITNESS
"and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn among the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth, to Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood" - Rev 1:5
How I love that man Jesus, though He never had a witness to stand for Him when He was before Pontius Pilate the governor, Nicodemus couldn't say much though he was a prominent man, Jesus has decided that none of His own would stand alone...He will bear witness to His Word, He will bear witness to our beliefs and indeed He will intercede for us before the Father.
Humans may be subject to errors, and pressure may make us tamper with the truth a little, but my Lord will be a faithful witness. Before the Father, He will be true, before the devil He will defend us, though the world may be against us He is there for us.
In the secret, when no one saw your giving, He was a witness to how you gave, He was a witness to that work you did in church, though another took the credit, yes the Faithful witness saw you travail in prayers for that dying brother - and the Faithful One keeps a record.
"Moreover I call God as witness against my soul, that to spare you I came no more to Corinth." - 2Cor 1:23
At that time when you are accused falsely, only God can stand as your witness, at those times when everyone points a finger and you didn't do it, why not call the Faithful witness so He can stand for you. When the Lord bears witness to your matter, all your accusers will be confounded. They have said it is because of your many abortions that you can't have a child now that you are married...call the Faithful witness to prove them wrong. Even if it is true what they say, the Faithful witness witnessed your day of forgiveness, He witnessed the day the guilt was taken away, He was the actor and yet the witness.
The faithful witness also saw the day you were preached to and warned against that secret sin, He who is is a faithful witness cannot be false about the sinner. His eyes goes to and fro and of course if He said you did wrong, He is a true witness. As regards mortals, the mouth of two or three witness is required to establish a matter. But from the Faithful witness, let every man be a liar, He is the only One needed and that will establish it.
CONCLUSION: Witnesses abound for and against us, don't be a false witness; be encouraged by the cloud of witness and be confident on the Faithful witness.
